There are many types of cable jacket or sheathing. The compatibility of connectors and adaptability to the environment should be taken into account in the selection of raw materials for cable sheathing. For example, extremely cold environments may require cable jackets that remain flexible at very low temperatures.
1. PVC material
Cable material is a kind of particle prepared by mixing and kneading and extrusion with polyvinyl chloride as base resin, adding stabilizer, plasticizer, calcium carbonate and other inorganic fillers, additives, lubricants and other additives.
PVC can be formulated for use in a variety of environments and applications. It is low cost to use, flexible, fairly strong, and a fire/oil proof material. However, this material contains harmful substances to the environment and human body, and there are many problems when it is used in special environment. With the enhancement of people's awareness of environmental protection and the improvement of material performance requirements, the PVC material has put forward higher requirements.
2. PE material
Polyethylene is widely used as a coating material for wire and cable because of its excellent electrical insulation and good processing properties, mainly used in the insulation layer and sheath layer of wire and cable. At the same time, PE material is also the main material of heat shrinkable cable accessories.
Excellent electrical performance and high insulation resistance. Polyethylene can be hard and very hard, but low density PE(LDPE) is more flexible and extremely resistant to moisture. Properly formulated PE has excellent weather resistance.
The linear molecular structure of polyethylene makes it easy to deform at high temperature. Therefore, in the application of PE in the wire and cable industry, polyethylene is often made into a network structure through the way of crosslinking, so that it also has a strong deformation resistance at high temperature.
Both XLPE and PVC are used as insulation materials for wires and cables, but XLPE wires and cables are more environmentally friendly than PVC wires and cables, and they have better performance.
