Key Characteristics of Stress Control Tube

2023-04-26
Heat shrinkable stress control tubes or stress control sleeves tubular insulation products that are made from a heat shrinkable polyolefin material, often polyolefin elastomer. Some key characteristics of stress control tubes include:

Stress Control Tube shrink tightly over cables, wires, and harnesses when exposed to heat, providing insulation and protection. The level of shrinkage depends on the particular tube but is often around 1/2 the original diameter. They are elastic and flexible and can conform well to the shape of the item they cover. This gives good surface contact and insulation.

Stress Control Tube help prevent or control stress and strain on the underlying components. The elasticity of the tubing absorbs and distributes forces over the length. This helps prevent issues like wire breakage from repeated bending. The tubing recovers well from repeated flexing and bending. It retains much of its elasticity over a wide temperature range.

Stress Control Tube can be cut to desired lengths to suit different applications. The cut ends can then be shrunk down with heat. Adhesive-lined tubing is also available with an inner melt adhesive layer to provide enhanced grip and sealing. Common types are 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1 heat shrink ratios with different levels of recovered thickness after shrinking. Higher ratios and wall thicknesses provide more insulation.

Stress Control Tube provide environmental sealing against fluids, dust, chemicals, and moisture when properly shrunk down. Some types have higher levels of chemical and fluid resistance. They come in a range of sizes to suit different gauges of wires, cables, and components. Sizes range from around 1/8 inch up to several inches in diameter.

Common applications of stress control tubing include wire harnesses, high-flex cables, transformers, pipe fittings, electronic components, and for EMI/RFI shielding. They provide insulation, stress relief, strain relief, environmental sealing, and abrasion resistance in these applications.
