How to use Cold Shrinkable Breakout

2023-09-23

Cold shrinkable breakout is a type of protective tubing that is used to insulate and protect cables or wires from environmental factors such as moisture, dust, and other contaminants.

Unlike heat shrinkable breakouts, cold shrinkable breakouts do not require heat to shrink or expand. Instead, they are pre-expanded and stored in a stretched position until they are ready to be installed over the cable or wire.

To install a cold shrinkable breakout, follow these general steps:

Choose the correct size: Select a cold shrinkable breakout that is the appropriate size for the cable or wire that needs to be protected.

Slide the breakout over the cable: Slide the cold shrinkable breakout over the cable or wire, making sure it is centered and straight.

Remove the supporting core: Once the breakout is properly positioned, remove the supporting core or holder, allowing the breakout to shrink and fit tightly around the cable or wire.

Inspect: After allowing some time for the breakout to contract and provide an airtight seal, inspect the installation to ensure that it is properly secured and the cable or wire is fully protected.

Cold shrinkable breakouts are typically made from silicone rubber, which provides excellent weather-resistance, flexibility, and long-term durability. They are widely used in many industries such as electrical power transmission and distribution, telecommunications, and construction to protect and insulate a variety of cables or wires in harsh environments.

Prepare the cable: Clean and prepare the cable or wire by removing any dirt, oil, or debris and making sure that the surface is dry.

Select the correct size: Choose the correct size cold shrinkable breakout that will fit securely over the cable or wire.

Slide the breakout over the cable: Slide the cold shrinkable breakout over the cable, making sure it is centered and straight.

Remove the supporting core: Once the breakout is properly positioned, remove the supporting core or holder.

Wait for the breakout to shrink: The cold shrinkable breakout will begin to shrink to the correct size once the supporting core has been removed. Wait for the material to reach the correct size and fit tightly around the cable or wire before continuing.

Inspect: After allowing the breakout to contract and provide an airtight seal, inspect the installation to ensure that it is properly secured and the cable or wire is fully protected.

The specific steps for using a cold shrinkable breakout may vary slightly depending on the type of breakout and cable or wire being used. It is always best to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific product that is being used. Also, it's important to properly clean the cable or wire surface for the breakout to adhere correctly.
